Experiencing your trusted appliance not working is a very bad situation. Especially problem related to leaking dishwashers is one of the most common problems faced by the owner of the appliance. And your seriousness to this problem also matters because some dishwasher leakage issues are so minor that it can be repaired easily at home.

So, we have mentioned a few common causes of dishwasher leakage problems and tricks to let you know how to fix a leaking dishwasher at home.

Clogged Dishwasher Filter:

Checking the Dishwasher filter must be checked at first instance before proceeding further for troubleshooting the dishwasher. If the filter is not cleaned on a regular basis, it might be possible that heap of food or other objects can not only prevent your dishes from being cleaned properly but also cause leakage. If you notice that the cleaning performance of the dishwasher has decreased significantly, then this is an alarm that the dishwasher needs to be cleaned. The filter traps food, debris, and other objects or particles that are left after cleaning.

Dishwasher filters should be cleaned at least once a month to increase the performance of your dishwasher.

Door Seal Leaking:

Leaking door seal may cause water leaking on the floor of your kitchen. To avoid this situation, open the door of the dishwasher and check the seal to see if it is damaged or worn. Ensure that it is clean and the door closes properly.  The upper side seals of the door can easily be replaced but if it is the lower door seal, you will be required to remove the door and this should be done by a professional plumber.

When the dishwasher seal is made of rubber or vinyl ages, it can become breakable and that means the dishwasher can not be closed properly and no longer watertight. Sometimes, the rubber seal can also lose or come out because of its alignment, if this happens push it back into the channel. However, replacement of the seal is required if it is damaged.

Unbalanced Dishwasher Level:

If the level of the dishwasher is not balanced, it might result in bumping cabinets and not closing properly. Water can flow out and leak from the dishwasher door. To balance your dishwasher level, check the level vertically & horizontally, and adjust it accordingly.

Water Valve Leakage:

The water inlet valve can be a cause of leaking overflowed dishwasher. The water inlet valve helps the water to reach the dishwasher from the waterline of your home. The water can be leaked out of your dishwasher if this valve is defective or damaged. Moreover, the leakage in the dishwasher means your dishes may not be cleaned well. So, it is necessary to ensure that the water valve is working properly.

For checking if a water inlet valve is leaking, check the water valve by removing the bottom plate on the front of the dishwasher.

If you find out that the water valve is leaking, immediately stop the water supply and replace the valve.

Defective Pump:

A defect in the pump could result in a leakage in the dishwasher. The Pump circulates the water to the dishwasher and drains it. It sets at the bottom of the dishwasher. It consists of two parts: one for circulation, another for draining the water.

If you notice that the drain pump is showing visible signs of damages, or it is continuously failing, it needs replacement.

Hoses Leakage:

The leakage can arise from a re-circulation hose or drain hose which is generally made of rubber or plastic and cracking in it can cause leakage.

For fixing this issue, the replacement of faulty hose or hoses is required.

BAD OR STUCK FLOAT SWITCH:

If the float switch is in bad condition or stuck on something, it can cause leakage in the dishwasher. To avoid this problem, Inspect the float switch at the bottom of the dishwasher and make sure it is working properly. If the float switch is in bad condition, replacement of the same is required.
